Just before Christmas, I noticed this article in one of the English newspapers (Daily Mail, November 20th 2006), The article reads: Tea bag , £ 7,500 each
This diamond-encrusted teabag was made last year by Boodles jewellers to celebrate PG tips’ 75th birthday. And to fill it, how about the priciest tea around? The trained taste bud would want to swop all the tea in China for this rare tea leaf from Darjeeling in India. Its pale green, almost white leaves are hand-picked from the buds in the oldest garden in India exclusively at spring time. Five chests containing 55kg of Makaibari silver tips (imperial) were sold at auction in Calcutta in July 2003. The deal fetched 18.000 Saudi riyals, or £2,517 per kilogram. The tea was purchased by Godfrey Philips India Ltd for dispatch to Japan and America. Tea drinkers in this country can buy the leaves on line.
tea can be a luxury….
Nice gift idea though!
